This work was created using the “Panorama” function on an iPhone camera. Normally, Panorama captures a scene by moving the camera along a fixed axis, as if tracing across a landscape. I instead activated the function while traveling on trains and in cars, allowing the camera to record the passing scenery in motion.

As time passed and the vehicle moved, the landscape was recorded in wrinkle-like distortions, transforming it into something resembling a virtual space. From these images, I focused on sections where the scenery changed particularly dramatically and compellingly, and extracted them as still images through screenshots.

Photography is traditionally a medium for capturing and recording a single moment. The images produced through this process, however, contain a sense of the passage of time within a single frame. Through this work, I explore the potential of this process as a new form of photographic expression.
